1947 Fire Response


In October of 1947, there were many forest fires in the State of Maine, 200,000 acres od forest land burned. In response, the men of Ripley formed four forest fire crews, each with a Deputy Fire Warden in charge.

The Fire Warden was John H. Gordon. His deputies were: James M. Laughton, Albert L. Sevey, Linwood "Tim" Haseltine and William Glidden.
